Dehradun : State Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Ganesh Joshi held a review meeting with the officials of the Agriculture Department at the camp office on Thursday regarding the damage caused to the crops of the farmers due to unseasonal rains and hailstorms in the state. During the review meeting, Agriculture Minister Ganesh Joshi obtained detailed information from the departmental officials regarding damage to crops due to hailstorm.
Minister Ganesh Joshi also instructed the officers in the meeting to do quick paperwork and provide relief amount to the farmers for their crops at the earliest. Minister Ganesh Joshi said that crops have been damaged due to hailstorm in 35618 hectares of agricultural land due to excessive rains in the state. The minister said that 822601 farmers in the state have been covered under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana. Under the restructured weather based crop insurance scheme for horticulture crops, 71537 farmers’ crops have been insured in Rabi season. Minister Joshi said that according to the standards of the disaster, out of the above damage area, the area of more than 33% damage is 7403 hectares. Minister Joshi said that out of 7403 hectare, 6468 hectare is irrigated and 435 hectare is unirrigated and 500 hectare is the area of fruit plants. Agriculture Minister Joshi said that according to the norms, farmers whose area of damage is more than 33% will be compensated soon under the calamity head. Assuring the farmers of the state, Agriculture Minister Ganesh Joshi said that the state government is standing with the farmers in their hour of crisis and soon the government will provide compensation amount for the crops of the farmers.
